I took a quick shower – a cold one to cool myself off, then looked through my clothes for something decent to wear. All I had were my long dresses, oversized jeans and t-shirts, and pajamas. Deep down, I’d already known that, but hearing him say it, felt different. Too heartbreaking.

“Levi, that might have been my first time, but I know how this works; no strings attached.” I forced a smile and tried to continue eating my food.

“And that’s what you want, right?”

Absolutely not.

I swallowed and met his gaze. “It doesn’t matter, like you said. We can’t change things. No strings is ... is what it has to be, but don’t say it doesn’t matter or treat it like it’s nothing.”

He nodded slowly, his brows furrowing. “Right.
